Is that a Mac in a penguin suit?

The story from the beginning of when Apple Computer, Inc. started letting 3rd parties sell Macintosh computers running Mac OS X and Linux, or in some cases, Linux alone. Why did they do this? It may be that Macs, particularly Apple’s PowerBook G4, have become commonplace at Linux events, such as the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in San Francisco.
