The BBC is set to ditch the Apple iPod, Linux and Mac OS X

In a planned revamp of their on-line streaming media content the BBC is set to make it impossible for users of the Mac OS X and Linux variant operating systems, as well as hand held devices such as the Apple iPod, to play it’s audio and video streams. The Sonos system will be used to stream everything from BBC radio and TV news content on the web which employs Microsoft’s Digital Rights Management model, known as “Plays for Sure”, to encode media so that only the Windows Media Player on the Windows platform can decode the data stream.
